| Last week my plan was to have a busy week but that's not how things turned out... I got a bad cold and was grounded all week. Lots of hot tea and books. Not the worst way to spend a week. |

| Normally I am a coffee/cappuccino drinker but when you are coughing and your throat hurts.... I had picked up this book The Painted Journal at the library and enjoyed paging through. I liked it but I'm not sure I'd buy it. But worth checking out from the library for sure. |

| Two Recommendations I love The Collage Ideas Book. It is quite small and easy to toss into your bag and have with you to read on the streetcar or at a cafe....or waiting for the streetcar...lots of interesting pages. And, I am a big fan of the collage magazine kolaj. (Just google it) You can order a sample issue to check out. It is kinda pricy but I think it's worth it. I enjoy every issue. |

| I know I couldn't....a friend showed me her copy and I had to have one. I don't really like the book design -- it is an oversize book and I don't like the layout with the image in the center and the binding down the middle BUT....it is still really fun to look at and pretty cheap used on (the dreaded) Amazon. |

| So, I am on the mend and hope to get out there and get busy this week. I also planned a trip to Chinatown to photograph but that got canceled due to pouring rain. I will try to get there soon to check out The Year of the Boar (sounds better than Pig). SF Scrap may have been lonely without me visiting so I plan to go there. The Film Noir Festival is also happening and I need to go and get scared. And I need to start working on my travel journal and plan my trip.... And what are you all doing this January 2019? Thanks, Annette. You have to order the Ephemera book online at the Uppercase website. It really is wonderful to see so many beautiful collections. The problem is, it makes me want to ADD to my collections and I am running out of room.....
DeleteBummer you were sick but hope you're feeling better! I received a wax seal from a pen pal recently and like you am excited about the possibilities of using one. I don't own one yet but would love to know where you found the envelope wax seal in your photo... It's absolutely precious. I also can confirm that the seals do indeed arrive in tact. I had a wax seal letter arrive all the way from India once. xo

I know way back in the day they went through various postal systems but that was before all the new machines...I have a couple of envelopes i bought at a flea market in France that had three seals on each envelope. Somebody really wanted security. And that envelope seal? Hummmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe you will be seeing one sooner than you might think........

Your concern about wax seals getting through the postal system is valid UNLESS you purchase flexible wax that guarantees your seal getting through the mail :) I've tried both and the "flex" component of newer wax gets through everytime.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda -- thank you, I am back in business. I think since I didn't get into the Ephemera book I should do a post on my own ephemera. God knows I have a whole lot of it. And isn't that book great? Hummmmmm flexible wax? Haven't heard of that...I just have the regular wax....

ReplyDeleteI have a friend who sent an envelope with a wax seal at Christmas. It didn't make it through our postal service, even though she paid extra for hand stamping the envelopes. Apparently, there are several different types of wax, so if you plan to buy any, you should ask if the wax is suitable for traveling through our postal system. My friend didn't ask until after she learned her wax seals didn't make it. The lady she bought the wax from told her the sealing wax was not intended to travel through the mail. WHAT?? Sounds like cheap wax to me! Hope this doesn't happen to you, dear Pamela.
The party is always going on! No worries. Thanks for the wax seal tips. So far I am using my wax seals on gift wrapped presents and tags and not sending them out through the mail....
