Looking To Exchange Mail Art?

I love mail art.
And, I know, if you are reading my blog -- you do too. People ask me all the time if I will exchange mail with them and sadly, I have to say, my plate is too full.
BUT
here is a post to help you out if you are are looking to exchange mail art and having trouble finding folks to trade with.....

For me, starting my blog a number of years ago, was a good move. I have received so much good mail that I am running out of room to store it all.
I've made lots of lovely mail art friends and met people all over the world who are interested in mail art.

Here are a few links to get you started --

Shouting at the Postman

International Union of Mail Artists
(the grandaddy of mail art sites)

Letter Writers Alliance

Beautiful incoming handmade cards sent to me by Dawn C

You can also check out Mail Me Some Art where there are lots of on-going swaps posted and you can choose what looks fun to do. If you get work you like in the swap, just write the sender and ask if they want to do personal trades with you....

Incoming mail surprises from Judy K

And, you can check out Extraordinary Penpals too.

And, read and comment on mail art blogs like
Envelope 100
Heleen Mail Art
Adrienne Mason Art
There are lots of links on these blogs to other mail art blogs.....just keep looking....

Incoming book made by Michelle C

I'm sure by now everyone knows about Postcrossing but I'm including here anyway.
Incoming Mail

Someone mentioned this postcard swap in the comments in the last post

INCOMNG MAIL
See what I mean? I get good mail. I'd say even GREAT mail. And you can too.
Remember, it's not the quantity that's important -- it is the fun of creating and sharing good mail.

And, look at my pal Monica's blog for eye candy and inspiration and ideas of mail art to send to  all your new pals --
The Artful ReCrafter

Incoming origami wallet -- filled with vintage stamps -- by Sally W

I have gotten new mail art pals through Instagram -- the blog has an IG page so check it out.
If you follow mail artlovers you can message them and ask if they want to trade mail with you.
Same goes for Facebook. There are mail art groups on Facebook, including IUOMA and mail lovers, follow them and get yourself in the mix.

Check out my old post about getting pen pals right here

Still some pretty good information and encouragement here and some nice postal photos to look at too........
(even if I do say so myself)

Most importantly
You've got to send good mail to get good mail.

****Here's the fun part***
If you are looking for folks to trade with, just write a comment and put in your email and maybe some of your interests....it could be a nice forum for finding others to trade mail with.
I can put it up there top right in the blog's Featured Post for a while and maybe we'll get some new trading going on.
So go ahead, be daring!
(You can set up a free gmail account just to comment on the blog and use for mail art)

And if you have any ideas I missed, please share.
And, please do leave a comment even if you aren't looking for new people to mail too. I would love to hear from you all and know that you are out there in cyberspace.
You don't want me to get lonely, do you?
Your comments are all much appreciated so let the mail art party begin!

Send Good Mail -- Get Good Mail

  1. Very good post with inviting photo's. I have now lots of people to trade mail with. But I know now that it is true that first you have to send good mail to get good mail. So invest time and creativity and then after a while people will honour that and send good mail back to you.

  2. Thank you for starting this up. I would love to join the mail art party! I can be reached at mailingmaven@gmail.com.

My interests are vintage postal items, travel, postage stamps, rubber stamps, photography, paint splatters, typewriters, and typography. I vary my mailings between more complex mail art collages and longer letters. I'm open to receiving either. I like to write about the interesting books, movies, and vacations I I'm enjoying. I like to hear about the details of your life!

    1. Michele C -- the origami wallet post will be coming very soon -- I promise. My friend Monica is back to blogging and we are both going to do origami folding posts so hang in there. It is only our easy steps to make the wallet. Tell your mail art friends to check out the booklet you made on the blog! I love your mail.

    1. Jolana -- the beauty of mail art is that anyone can do it! Everyone has skills and the more mail art you make -- the better you get at it! Plus, just looking at great mail can inspire you. And, everyone loves mail no matter what so I say go for it!

  5. Thank you for this post! I must admit I've never send mail art for the sake of mail art before, I always include a letter for a pen-friend. I guess I am afraid to send raw material with the envelope or that "just" a homemade card with it won't be good enough. For some reason it has to be more in my mind...

  8. Just want you to know I am a big fan of your blog...I think many bloggers lately are getting discouraged due to the overwhelming amount of social media out there to keep up with. So just a note of encouragement to keep blogging if you still enjoy it. But back to the topic-- This is a very helpful post; thank you! I participate in Mail Me Some Art, and I find it to be lots of fun. When I have to mail a birthday card (etc.), I never get it out in time...but I have no trouble with the Mail Me Some Art deadlines. The only thing that is a bit discouraging is when the recipient doesn't acknowledge your mail. At least a quick email to say they received it would be nice. But the process of creating the art is still rewarding. :-)

    1. It doesn't seem very nice that recipients don't acknowledge your work in those exchanges -- and I know firsthand how terrific your work is which makes it even more surprising. Thanks for the blogging encouragement too. I do get discouraged but then every so often something happens to encourage me -- like your nice comment.

  9. How ironic. I had your site up on my monitor, and was about to leave a comment when the electricity went out at my house. Two hours later, I'm finally here, but I see you have already left a comment to me.

Happy BELATED birthday to begin with. I hope it was wonderful and you didn't have to share your cake with anyone. I know Sally didn't have to. She also got flowers. But I bet you would rather have good mail.

Wish I could join in, but the cost of postage is beyond my ability to join until this swap I'm in has finished. Even sending in the US can cost a lot when your postage budget is as limited as mine. I hope to join after my swap is over and I can send a few letters or cards and decorated envelopes.

    Again, happy belated birthday.

    1. Elizabeth -- funny, we had a power outage here in SF yesterday too.
Thank you for the birthday wishes -- I got flowers too -- lilacs, my favorite. You send out a lot of art so I'm sure you are paying a lot in postage. Join in any time you want too.

  12. Thank you for a post that gets mail art lovers in touch with one another!

I love anything with postal themes, and vintage imagery, especially of homes and women of the 1930s to 1960s and vehicles of those eras. I enjoy typography, as well as actual handwriting. I love all sorts of folded letters and mini-books. I like stamps, typewriters, mermaids, maps, diagrams, and Zentangles.

If anyone is interested in a swap, you can reach me at aleakaskey@yahoo.com, or through my blog, http://andria-drawingnear.blogspot.com.
