OUTGOING from NYC I gave this envelope to the desk clerk to mail and she loved it! Maybe we have a new mail art convert. |
OUTGOING NYC MAIL If you look closely, these are travel collaged cards that went out...... |
OUTGOING NYC MAIL Some vintage NYC postcards on the way |
OUTGOING NYC MAIL I love the New York subway system and had fun using some Metro cards on handmade postcards.... |
DESK Working at the desk in the hotel room..... |
Bryant Park .........or sitting at a colorful table in Bryant Park...a great spot for writing letters or for journal writing....and NYC City had some unusually mild weather for March. |
KATZ'S DELI Another great spot for lunch or making writing a sneaky postcard... |
Humnmnmnnn.....I believe I did take a (ahem) number of the KATZ place mats to write letters on or fold into handmade envelopes. |
INCOMING From Sally in London -- hand sewn PAMELA and little flags -- how clever and charming this this? |
This is just so cool! I love what you do. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting.
DeleteI would love to see all the photos you have to show of NYC. I've only ever been to New York when it's *freezing cold* so I haven't been able to enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI can see why that desk clerk loved your envelope, it's LOVELY!
Also, I saw Sally's post displaying the same envelope you received and it's so funny how I can see the same piece before and after it's had it's mail journey and I Always prefer it after. <3 I'm glad you had such a great time!
Thanks, Mary Has Sound! I have been in NYC is every season and the only one I don't like is summertime when it is too darned hot.
DeleteI get a kick out of seeing "before and after" envelopes too.
I have at least two more NYC posts which i hope you will enjoy.
I don't know what to like more, the awesome mail, the NYC sights or that delicious looking sandwich :D Something is on it's way to you for your birthday, I hope it arrives semi-on time :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Annejo. Well....you can just like it ALL.....(I do).
ReplyDeleteWell didn't you have fun in NYC. Katz's deli a hubby favorite for many moons. He will be in NYC tomorrow but no time for some pastrami. Love the metro cards on the posts. Rubber stamp heaven sounds like a great place and flea markets, oh, hard to lug a typewriter in an airplane though, but if you really wanted one I bet you would. xox
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed I did have too much fun, Corrine. Can't your hubby pick up a pastrami to go? You can lug a typewriter onto an airplane and a friend of mine recently did. Catwrangler (who some of you may know) carried a typewriter down from Seattle to SF -- she raffled it off at a Correspondence Co-Op meeting. She said the TSA didn't bat an eye.
DeleteFun! I would like to see MORE! NYC... a place I would love to visit.
ReplyDeleteOk, Millicent -- you've got it. More to come. And yeah, someday you must visit NYC....when the kids are in HS and you can leave them with dad????
DeleteYay! It arrived :) Albeit a little battered. My freestyle sewing looks like a kid's handwriting. Ha ha! Hope you enjoyed it x
ReplyDeleteSally - I absolutely loved it! And I think it looked great. Thanks for the goodies inside. You'll be hearing from me...
DeleteMmmmm....zabar's and katz's deli. I'm overdue for a new York trip. You hit the weather jackpot for sure. Can't believe the amount of awesome mail you were able to send out. You must not have slept the whole time you were there. -Karen
ReplyDelete...and Junior's too.....you are overdue for a visit. And you're right -- not much sleep at all -- slept on the plane ride home.
DeleteI just got back from a long weekend trip to NYC, so I really loved this post (found you through 52 Weeks of Mail on Facebook)! I wish I had known about Casey's Rubber Stamps and the flea market you mentioned--I will stay tuned for further posts, since we are within driving distance of the city, and I want to go back! I visited Paper Presentation while I was there and was blown away by all of the options.
ReplyDeleteI love your use of the metro cards and all the great handmade postcards and envelopes--I really love making envelopes and was thinking about making some out of the subway map we picked up. So glad to have found you and this inspiration--thanks!
Amber -- I picked up a subway map to make envelopes with too! Yes, stay tuned because you will be amazed at how great the flea market was/is and Casey's Rubber Stamps too. You can start planning your next trip.

I don't care if it's one super long post or lots of smaller posts, I just want to see and hear about everything! I may never get to NYC, but I'd love to go, so I'm living through you!
ReplyDeleteSharon in TX
I hope you do get to visit NYC, Sharon but in the meantime i am working on some more NYC posts and I hope you will enjoy them.
DeleteHaha, love the place mat envelope with the yellow NY bus - very cool, and awesome mail!
ReplyDeletethanks for commenting, iHanna
Deletei love the idea of putting your metro cards on the postcards - so perfect.
ReplyDeleteand that plastic damage bag from usps is Hilarious!!!
Thanks, patience! The funny thing about the USPS bag is that the card wasn't even damaged....
DeleteLooks like such a great trip! There is SO much great fodder for mail art in NYC. I only live two hours away, but NEVER get there anymore! I see posts like this and think, I have GOT to make it happen! :-)
ReplyDeleteAndria -- ha -- just wait till you see the next two posts. I bet you will be packing your suitcase.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time. I LOVE your postcards and envelopes. I would love to send you a postcard or two! This is so much fun! You can email me at the_roaddummy_1atsbcglobaldotnet. Your work is so amazing and fun!
ReplyDeleteMelanie--thanks so much! I did have a terrific time and thanks for your nice comments about my mail art. I came home to find an enormous stack if mail -- delightful but now I behind in everything!
DeletePerhaps we can trade cards when I catch up?
Great postcards and envelopes. I hope you're not taking away from your fun time. I would love to be there right now. I have been looking for a decent Reuben sandwich...
ReplyDeleteChristine H--get thee to KATZ and you will find a Ruben sandwich!
DeleteDon't worry, I had way too much fun -- and my little secret is, I made up some of the collage cards before I even left SF. Just had to write on them and pop them in a NYC mailbox.
I love your mail art. I really wish I had time to get into it. You make it look so amazing. : )
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you, montiqneyrules....it is really a lot of fun to make...and I am kind of obsessed...but really, you can whip out handmade envelopes really quickly....
DeleteSooo......you could have stayed at my apartment, as I was in Turkey while you were here. Sorry I missed you. Next time - an incentive to let me know you're coming. ;)
