Manhattan Mail In a New York Minute

Packed up my mail art kit and hit the road (or maybe I should say the sky?).
It isn't easy finding time to send out mail art from NYC when you are visiting because there are
way too many fun things to do.
I sure didn't have time to pick up a book or a magazine
but I did manage to send out some mail.

OUTGOING from NYC
I gave this envelope to the desk clerk to mail and she loved it! Maybe we have a new
mail art convert.

OUTGOING NYC MAIL
If you look closely, these are travel collaged cards that went out......

OUTGOING NYC MAIL
Some vintage NYC postcards on the way

OUTGOING NYC MAIL
I love the New York subway system and had fun using some Metro cards
on handmade postcards....

Handmade Journals
I always carry travel journals that I make specific to the place I am traveling to.
The one of the left has made four NYC trips so far and the smaller one is an insert into the larger
one and just for this trip.

DESK
Working at the desk in the hotel room.....

Bryant Park
.........or sitting at a colorful table in Bryant Park...a great spot for writing letters or  for
journal writing....and NYC City had some unusually mild weather for March.

KATZ'S DELI
Another great spot for lunch or making writing a sneaky postcard...

Humnmnmnnn.....I believe I did take a (ahem) number of the KATZ place mats
to write letters on or fold into handmade envelopes.
INCOMING MAIL
The pain of returning home was lessened by a huge pile of fabulous incoming
mail waiting in a tray for me -- my son was under strict orders to take it in and protect it from
the rain San Francisco had while I was in NYC.
Thank you all!
I definitely have my work cut out for me this week --  answer my mail!

Uh Oh
And them there was this....but the funny thing is, there was actually nothing wrong with
what was inside. Kelly P had wrapped some rubber bands around a wooden postcard and I guess
the USPS thought it was broken. (I forgot to take a photo of it -- I will post a photo of the card with
rubber bands on the Facebook page for Cappuccino & Art).

INCOMING
From Sally in London -- hand sewn PAMELA and little flags -- how clever and charming this this?

NEW YORK CITY

If you are considering a trip to NYC I highly suggest going --  a fabulous place
to visit with endless things to do and see (and eat).

And it is a post-inspiring spot too -- upcoming posts with include Casey's Rubber Stamp Heaven
and the best flea market  have been to in ages (think rubber stamps & typewriters and much, much more). So stayed tuned into the blog for those. If you happen to be planning a trip they will be useful.

I have lots more photos -- so let me know -- via comments -- if I should just do a general
post of the great city of New York.

Happy Incoming and Outgoing to you all!!

Oh--and welcome to the newest "followers" of Cappuccino & Art -- we hit
200 while I was gone -- whoo whoo

  2. I would love to see all the photos you have to show of NYC. I've only ever been to New York when it's *freezing cold* so I haven't been able to enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed.
I can see why that desk clerk loved your envelope, it's LOVELY!
Also, I saw Sally's post displaying the same envelope you received and it's so funny how I can see the same piece before and after it's had it's mail journey and I Always prefer it after. <3 I'm glad you had such a great time!

    1. Thanks, Mary Has Sound! I have been in NYC is every season and the only one I don't like is summertime when it is too darned hot.
I get a kick out of seeing "before and after" envelopes too.
I have at least two more NYC posts which i hope you will enjoy.

  5. Well didn't you have fun in NYC. Katz's deli a hubby favorite for many moons. He will be in NYC tomorrow but no time for some pastrami. Love the metro cards on the posts. Rubber stamp heaven sounds like a great place and flea markets, oh, hard to lug a typewriter in an airplane though, but if you really wanted one I bet you would. xox

    1. Yes, indeed I did have too much fun, Corrine. Can't your hubby pick up a pastrami to go? You can lug a typewriter onto an airplane and a friend of mine recently did. Catwrangler (who some of you may know) carried a typewriter down from Seattle to SF -- she raffled it off at a Correspondence Co-Op meeting. She said the TSA didn't bat an eye.

  9. I just got back from a long weekend trip to NYC, so I really loved this post (found you through 52 Weeks of Mail on Facebook)! I wish I had known about Casey's Rubber Stamps and the flea market you mentioned--I will stay tuned for further posts, since we are within driving distance of the city, and I want to go back! I visited Paper Presentation while I was there and was blown away by all of the options.

I love your use of the metro cards and all the great handmade postcards and envelopes--I really love making envelopes and was thinking about making some out of the subway map we picked up. So glad to have found you and this inspiration--thanks!

    Thanks for commenting.

Don't worry, I had way too much fun -- and my little secret is, I made up some of the collage cards before I even left SF. Just had to write on them and pop them in a NYC mailbox.
