And To All A Good Night!

You've been wondering what I've been doing? Well, I know some of you have because I've been getting emails. You might want to grab a cup of tea...or coffee...or wine because this one is going to be long.

"The Holidays".....you know how busy it is and I don't even do that much....I did take a day off to play tourist in my own town. San Francisco is a great place to do that. Isn't the Palace hotel pretty?

And Chinatown....always a favorite spot of mine. I have been roaming around the streets and alleys there for years but I had never been to this place. I passed it by lots of ties thinking it was a tourist trap and it kind of is BUT it just looks so cool...
The Far East Cafe on Grant Avenue

And I can recommend the wonton/noodles/BBQ pork soup for sure.

Another favorite spot to hang out is my studio. One of my happiest places to be and there is always so much to do there...
and, I like company too, so come on in.

My pal Margarete brought me some great boxes of stamps and I spent quite a lot of time happily sorting them and playing with them...

I wrapped quite a few presents in my studio too...

And I made a bunch of Christmas accordion fold books but having gotten into the holiday spirit too late I still have them all. But the good news is they are all ready for NEXT Christmas. If I can remember where I put them.
I just don't get in the mood for Xmas till about a week before. As I was making things I was thinking what a good blog post it would be to show you but by then it was too late...
DOES THAT HAPPEN TO YOU?

I worked on finishing up my NYC travel journal. I had fun making tabs and then sticking stamps on them..

Don't they look cool? Well, I think so...

I made a very small, almost square altered book for a good friend  who loves Japan.

Also busy making envelopes and sending out some good mail.

Yes, another lunch out - this one in Japantown.

Spend some nice time by my pretty Christmas tree....read a lot of books, baked a lot of cookies and made pies, took packages to the post office, worked, cooked, went to our mail art group's Xmas party.....
OK, SO here's what I want to know from YOU --
What would you like to see on the blog? What interests you? Just Art? Food? San Francisco?
I need to know if there is enough interest to continue and what you'd like to see more/less of.
And, c'mon  -- you can post anonymous comments easily - I know because I get A LOT of spam comments. You can do it!
Let's start the new year together.

In the meantime, if you are looking for me, I'm having a cocktail.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a Very Happy 2109!

    1. I will do a tutorial on those little folded booklets (I don't really know what to call them). They are so fun to make and SO EASY you will not believe it. Next post up so watch for it and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Happy 2019!

  2. I love your blog! I look forward to every post. I enjoy seeing your outgoing and incoming mail. I love to see the stores around the City where I can not go right now but would love to visit. I like seeing the new things you do to your studio. Your journals and art projects are always inspiring. When you share your trips to the Friends of the Library, SCRAP, meet ups or other places it is always interesting.

    1. Well, thank you so much for the lovely comment and taking the time to write. I always wonder if people want to see things other than the arty posts (like SF posts). I am very glad you enjoy them and i hope you will get to visit San Francisco one day. Happy New Year to you.

  4. I love everything about your blog, dear Pamela. I fell in LOVE with your tree.

I enjoy it when you show me your city, since mine is SO boring. I enjoy all those incredible postage stamps you collect and occasionally use. I love the little altered books you create. I also love that you have a time warp machine (grin).

To answer your question, I also can't seem to get into Christmas until it's entirely too late. Then I end up sending everything late. It's not procrastination, but simply no motivation.

Keep those blog posts coming, dear. we love them.

    1. Elizabeth -- and Bleubeard too -- thanks so much. I DO use the postage stamps a lot -- I will show you. I'm with you -- it isn't procrastination, I don't feel it till about a week before Xmas. And once it's over, it's over...lol. We went to the museum, lunch and conservatory of flowers today and took down our tree. happy New Year to you.

  5. It's all so inspiring wonderful! I come to see what you've been up to art wise - tutorials are always appreciated (would love to know how to make the accordion book). I drool over your stamp collection - maybe a post on your most favorite finds over the years (do you have stamps you will never part with? I know I do). AND I do like reading about your travels and your hometown....thanks for sharing it all :)

    1. Thanks so much, Jewels -- and I will do a tutorial on that book in the next post so keep an eye out. You will be amazed at how easy it is -- and how fun. I have made so many of the little pocket folders in all sizes. I can't stop. My favorite finds? Now, that's an idea. I do have a few favorites......I am so very glad you enjoy the blog. Happy 2019.

    1. Thanks Dawn -- I am glad you enjoy. It isn't easy to know what people are interested in so i think that's why I am slowing down the posts. But I have a few ideas up my sleeve. Happy New Year and thanks for reading and commenting.

    1. Thanks Cindy -- I know you have been following -- and commenting for a long time and it is much appreciated. I really wasn't just trolling for compliments. I wonder what people are interested in. I like to throw in photos/info about SF or my travels or lunch but I often wonder if I should just stick to art. Have a happy and creative new year and thanks for your support.

  10. One More question. What type of tree is your Christmas Tree? My husband said it looks like the tree he had a child in England. We cannot find that type here in Boston thank you Hester

ps. by the time i get into the Christmas mode it is almost over. The tree is decorated only a few days before, but enjoyable all the same

    1. Hester -- that tree is a Silvertip. My favorite kind because there is room between the branches to hang ornaments and the garlands drape well. They aren't easy easy to find as some other varieties. You are in Boston? A lovely place. And I'm with you -- I am in the mood a few days before as well. Happy 2019.

  11. Pamela, first off, Christmas tidings to you~
I do love everything you post about! I love the visits around San Fran, and when you go on trips! (Have you ever been to Wa? Up by Port Orchard? Or how about Texas, around Plano? I ask because my sons live in these places, and if you have recommendations, well, I'd love to read about them!)

This post was lovely! Seeing your beautiful Christmas tree and the places you visited as well as the yummy food you ate! We live in the country in upstate New York, far away from any good eats or even cultural things or places. I guess this is why I love reading your posts so much!

And your artwork...oh it is just fabulous! I love what you create and you are ever so inspiring!
So in my humble opinion, I think you should carry on as you are...I will continue to read, absorb, be inspired and enjoy!

Very Happy New Year wishes to you! May the coming year bring you much joy, good health and an abundance of continued creativity!
    Happy 2019~Pamela!

    1. Jackie -- what a lovely comment. Many thanks for taking the time to write. I am so happy you like seeing my art -- that means a lot. I wish I could help you out with tips about Texas or WA state but I have never been to Texas. NYC or Portland or SF and I'm your girl. Upstate NY sounds lovely from what I've heard and you can get into NYC pretty easily too. But maybe not tonight (on new years eve) -- I read two million people will be in Times Square tonight. Nooooooo...Times Square is crazy even on an ordinary day... Thank you for the good wishes and Happy New Year to you too. Let's make 2019 a creative one!

  13. Hi there Pamela! It has been years since I mailed out my last mailart... But I recently decided to take some sanity time and start "mailarting" again. I have missed all my postal friends and even though I have kept in touch with some of them through other means (texting, Facebook...cringe... I know) I have been collecting dust in my PO Box. That is just a sad state of affairs. :( So, who did I think of first when I decided to renew my postal life? You! I am so glad that you are still posting on your blog! I am sick in bed today so I am going to peruse your past blog posts to pass the afternoon. I always loved your postal enthusiasm and your art and the photos of your jaunts around SF. I hope you will keep posting, you are a breath of fresh air! Take Care and Happy New Year! Maybe soon you will see me in the mail! (If I can find my Mailart address book) Yours, Elle Mental!

    1. Well, HELLO Elle Mental -- it has been a long time. Sorry to hear you are sick in bed but rest up and relax and I bet you'll be feeling better soon. And you better get busy and send out out some good mail when you're better because an empty mail box is just sad....
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Much appreciated.

  15. I LOVE sending mail to my creative virtual friends, but I don’t do it as often as I’d like as I don’t know what to put inside the good mail or what to write about to put inside the good mail. I’d love to see more inspiration about that.

    1. Annie -- thanks for the suggestion. And, also for taking time to comment. I will think about what makes "good mail" but, of course, it is different for everyone. But remember -- for most people getting ANYTHING that is a bill or junk mail is going to make them happy....

  17. I LOVE this post :-) I love seeing what you are up to and what you're thinking about. I like that you not only take pictures of what you are working on, but take pictures of your environment and what's going on around you. I really need to work on that! For me, it's all about the art; you know that about me. I love seeing your creative process and appreciate it when you take the time to explain something and show detail through your great photos. I hope you'll keep on blogging. Yep, it's a lot of work, but you're creating such a great collection of posts on all kinds of wonderful things.

    1. Hey -- pal -- very nice to hear from you and thank you for your comments.
I like making my environment like art too and food is art so I figure it's all good. Having people respond about the blog has encouraged me to think up some new posts.....

  18. Late to reply, but came home from the States earlier this week and the jetlag got me bad, haha. I personally am very interested in your art and less in pictures of food and the likes. Do I mind that you are posting those? No, not at all, I think you keep a nice balance between all the different "topics". Unless you ditch the mail art completely, I will keep following your blog, I like your picutres and the stories that come with them. Does that make any sense?

    1. Oh! I could never ditch the mail art!!!! Do ATCs and altered books count as good too? Hope you enjoyed your vacation in the USA. And yes, your comment make perfect sense. Thanks for taking the time to write. Happy New Year.

    2. Yes, ATCs and altered books also count as good. ^^ I love paper art.

  19. I'm a bit late in catching up with your blog too. I like everything you post - it's a glimpse into your life and who you are and what you make. I enjoy anything "how-to" and wonder how you keep track of everything that you have to work with. I love it when you share pics from your mail group meetings and what everyone is creating and when you visit the various vintage paper fairs and book sales. Have a wonderfully creative 2019 and I'll look forward to all of your new posts!

    1. Hi Colleen -- so fun to see a new name here! And, I'm glad you enjoy the posts about the mail art meetings because our January 2019 meeting will be my next post -- stay tuned! I don't always keep track of everything.....but I do like having a few different projects all going on at the same time. Keeps things interesting. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
