No, it doesn't come autographed -- I am just lucky enough to know Jennie and Carolee and almost all the folks who created the book and the mail artists who contributed. Kind of like a mail art yearbook?
This post started out to be about the two vintage books I had but (like all my art projects) it evolved and I included a couple of contemporary books too to round things out. And, why not?
So, keep your eye out for some of those old books next time you pass a garage sale or library book sale and you know where to get the other, newer books if you want to.
Now I'm going to go read........and maybe tear that little Mr Postman book up........

Am I missing any good books? Postal? Artistamp? Please let me know in the comments if you know of any others.
I'm sure we'd all like to know! |
I love Good Mail Day! It is a book I can keep going through again and again, never get bored of it. But now I am envious of your copy!
ReplyDeleteTomoyoHime -- if you visit San Francisco sometime you can bring the book and get it autographed! It is a terrific book, I agree!
DeleteOh how charming are those illustrations. Great find. xox
ReplyDeleteCorrine...charming...I agree....and I am going to find some fun things to do with them too. xo
DeleteI guess the current day banks copied Paris and Berlin with the "pneumatic" tubes!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen those tubes, Nancy....
DeleteCool vintage books! I would have bought them too!
ReplyDeleteMme nosenose -- of course! You like vintage too!
DeleteOh my, I know about your excitement in finding little treasure postal books. I've found several similar to yours, but I can't bear to tear them up!! Do you keep all of your original little pictures and just make copies of them when you make such things as zines? Or do you use the originals in making such things like zines, keep those original creations and send out copies of them?? Or do you indeed use your originals in your artsy stuff and simply send them out in their original forms???
ReplyDeleteHappy Mail Day -- I don't usually tear up books unless I have multiple copies or they are seriously falling apart. For the zines, I use originals to make the master copy of the zine that is then photo-copied. I try to lightly tape the originals in the first zine so I can remove them if I want to (but that doesn't always work). I tend to use originals in my collages etc -- I don't really like copies. I would never tear up a great book that was in really good condition. But The Postman book is really falling apart and has that bad tape stuck in it that is discolored....and I figure I will get a lot of mileage out of all those great pages/images -- AND -- I can use the front and back covers to make into a book!
DeleteOoh, I have the rubber stamp of the lady writing a letter- the B/W photo. Nice books and photos, Pamela!
ReplyDeleteYou do? I haven't seen that as a rubber stamp, Vizma. Glad you enjoyed the post, my friend.
DeleteI really love the illustrations from The Postman...what a wonderful find! And I agree that Good Mail Day is a must-have for anyone even remotely intrigued by interesting mail. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYes -- Good Mail day is the BEST! And I love that old book too, Andria. I am thinking of projects to do with the pages...
