In A New York Minute

I'm off to one of my most favorite places on earth......

NYC
Got the travel journal all prepped and ready to go. Mail art kit at the ready too.

So cool that this smaller journal fits perfectly in the fabulous mail art pouch my pal Dori made me.
I will have it with me at all times.
You never know when inspiration will strike.

One thing I get a big kick out of in NYC is all the yellow cabs......

I'm not much of a bagel eater but I keep hearing about how fantastic NYC bagels are so I am going to have to have to try one this time.
I do kinda love them floating around on my journal pages...

It sure took a long time to paint every page but it was fun.

I pasted in a very cool poem called
How To walk in New York
I do know how. FAST. Look like you know where you're going. I almost always actually do know where I'm going after so many years of visiting there.

Love my NYC taxi rubber stamp -- from The Ink Pad. I pre-stamped the journal. Not taking my stamps with me. Travel light if you can. But I do take my trusty fountain pen and ink refills.

Last page of the journal -- more bagels! (I have to visit Zabars)

The Ink Pad, Casey's, City Bakery for hot chocolate, some deli and some plays, meet-ups with two mail art pals and some old friends, the new Whitney.......

See you all later. Postcards to come.

Anyplace you think I should go?

  3. Have fun in NYC! I used to go often, but less so these past few years. My favorite places were to wander the side streets in SOHO and to visit Pearl River Mart (closed recently). ... If you want to go to Brooklyn, I thought Brooklyn Flea was fantastic & there is a winter venue. Have you ever been to the Kinokuniya store near the NYPL? Great for pens & stationary & Japanese craft books.

    1. I try to visit NYC once every year. I've been to Pearl River Mart and it was fun but we really have all the same stuff in our SF Chinatown. We have Kinokuniya too but the Brooklyn Flea -- that we don't have! There is just SO much to do in NYC. The city never sleeps and I don't get much sleep there either.

    1. Thanks, Marie w -- I have a yellow cab thing, as you can see. I'm glad I bought that cab stamp at the Ink Pad on my last visit because I didn't see it there this time!

  6. How to walk in NYC has changed since phone zombies! A New York Minute is just not the same! You have to be alert to not bump into people mesmerized by their phones in the middle of the sidewalk!

    1. Yes -- true -- a lot of folks standing in the middle of the sidewalk staring at tiny screens -- even in the frigid weather. But it is still a good poem, don't you think?

  7. Glad you are enjoying coming along for the ride, Linda. I never actually got around to trying a NYC bagel but I can say the NYC pastrami sandwiches and cheesecake are fabulous. I will post some photos next time.

  10. Pamela, you continue to inspire me! I was super impressed with your attention to detail and lovely journaling. It really forces you to capture your memories and experience them beyond your digital phone photos. The walking poem was clever and as your blogger buddies shared, your food artistry was delicious! Not sure if you already returned to the west coast, but if your still enjoy NY, I suggest Eleni's Cookies in Chelsea and George's for traditional corn beef sandwiches in Wall Street where you can also stop by and take a pic in front of the Tiffany's window! xo

    1. Well, thank you, Playa Paper -- you are very nice to say that. I always make travel journals for my trips and I think they are my most favorite souvenirs. I am still working on the Spain/Morocco journal.....the NYC travel journal is mostly filled up too but I have to put some finishing touches on it. Thanks for the tips and for taking the time to comment.

  13. I have a love affair with NYC, too. It is always fun to visit, and you've made me want to return. I know it's not the place most people would suggest, but I fell in love with the High Line. It's located in lower Manhattan and runs from about 14th St to 34th. It is a part that sits on an elevated section of what was once the New York Central Railroad. Of course, you might want to save it for a warmer visit, since NYC is quite cold right now. Have fun on your trip.

  14. Oh yes -- the High Line -- I have walked it a number of times, including in the freezing cold this time, Elizabeth. It starts - or ends - at the new Whitney Museum which is perfect. We did walk but we nearly froze to death! I have a photo to post next time -- it even looks freezing in the photo -- and that was BEFORE the snow and slush. LOL
